BankingEast Africa2017Kubernetes

From whitepaper to a live bank deployment

The challenge

Through 2016, Extio had a strategic plan and a technical whitepaper for a Kubernetes-based platform — but no proof it could survive contact with a real, regulated production environment. Banking infrastructure doesn't forgive an unfinished idea.

The approach

2017 opened with platform design and a technical demonstration, followed by an MVP. The team ran it through in-house testing before doing the thing that actually tests a platform: putting a working alpha inside a major bank in East Africa. That alpha validated the approach under real operational conditions — not a staging environment, not a sandbox.

The full platform release followed the same year — Kubernetes, CI/CD, security, monitoring and analytics, in production.

The outcome

The successful alpha deployment gave Extio the confidence — and the evidence — to move to a full platform release in Q4 2017, followed by a private beta and migration to Red Hat OpenShift in 2018. It's the deployment that anchors Extio's roadmap today, and the reason "Kubernetes since 2015" appears on every page of this site rather than as a marketing line.

A note on this case study: we're deliberately not attaching invented metrics to this story. What's true is what's written above — a working platform, tested in-house and then validated inside a live bank, ahead of a full production release the same year.
